Urdd Turns 90
Ah, Mistar Urdd. The man of greenness then redness then whiteness.
A literal translation of Urdd Gobaith Cymru to English is "Welsh League Of Hope", which sounds rather epic if you ask me.
But it seems that birthday wishes are in order for the largest youth organisation in Wales, as the Urdd turned 90 last Monday.
The organisation was founded by Sir Ifan ab Owen Edwards in 1922 through an appeal in the children's magazine Cymru'r PLant, and its first branch was created in the same year as its inception in Treuddyn.
Since then, the Urdd have many a residential site, one of which CLIC has visited for one of its weekenders, in Cardiff Bay.
It also has a festival. You might have heard about it. It's called the Urdd Eisteddfod.
To celebrate, Eurig Salisbury wrote something for the occasion, which can be seen here.
Penblwydd hapus, Urdd Gobaith Cymru.
Let's hope that you'll be celebrating your hundredth in a decade's time, eh?
