Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra Favourite Classics
Michael Bell - Conductor
Rossini The Thieving Magpie; Dvořák Symphony No 8 in G Major; Elgar Enigma Variations
CPO's season continues a programme of favourite classics opening with one of Rossini's most sparkling overtures, The Thieving Magpie Dvořák's Symphony No. 8 must be one of the most life enhancing pieces of music ever written, and is based on Bohemian folk music that Dvořák so loved.
The programme is completed with Elgar's best loved work, his Enigma Variations, the work that catapulted him to world fame in 1899. It's a series of portraits in music of a group of Elgar's friends including the deeply moving Nimrod and finally Elgar's own magnificent self portrait.
